Thunderclap
Newman - "Something in the Air" (1969)
Hollywood Dream
This pop anthem stirs up some real emotion. A poignant theme
that is as relevant today as when it was written. Actually,
even more so! This masterpiece was produced by Pete Townshend,
who played bass and whose vocal style is very similar to that
of the writer and singer Speedy Keen, who was Pete Townshend's
chauffeur and roadie for the Who... Thunderclap

The
Who - "Armenia City in the Sky" (1967)
The Who Sell Out Written by Speedy Keen from Thunderclap
Newman, this song explodes in a magical burst of pure energy.
Spiritual lyrics, psychedelic production, and Daltry's powerful
and ethereal vocals take the song out of this world. If
that's not enough, guitar feedback, backward solos and John
Entwistle's French horn make this song a real treasure.

The
Flamin' Groovies - "Shake Some Action" (1976)
title track from their legendary album
From San Francisco, an American group comes out with its
title album song. One might say it's possibly the Holy Grail
of tributes to the Jangle and harmonies of the best of the
Byrds and the British Invasion. Encompassing all that is
rock and roll, this stellar track features a Chuck Berry
inspired guitar solo that somehow fits like a glove among
the perfect Mersey beat Beatles meets the Byrds picking
and strumming on 6 and 12 string Rickenbacker and Gretsch
guitars. All while being surrounded with layers of Beatle
harmonies. This track is at the top of the songheads universe.

Big
Star - "September Gurls" (1974)
Radio City In the same league with the Beatles'
"Nowhere Man." Here we have the best of the best.
Unique vocal style, yearning, heartfelt, with just the right
phrasing. Hyperactive but on-target drumming (Ringo meets
Keith Moon) and a guitar solo played on a six string rick
that would put a serious smile on George Harrison. Although
not a household name, Big Star have gone on to influence
a whole universe of Jangle Popsters throughout the world.
Also tops in the songheads universe of great music.

minimalist vibe that will have you floating on a cloud of
summer Beach Boy heaven. Produced with psychedelic overtones.

Laura
Nyro - "Lu" A brilliant, soulful voice
that truly explodes from the depths of her soul-baring songwriting.
From an artist known for writing a string of hits for others,
this lesser known song is just another example of how she
took elements of her jazz and Motown influences and incorporated
them into her musically complex and seriously moving compositions.

Todd
Rundgren - "We Gotta Get You A Woman" (1970)
Runt Although we consider Todd’s next album,
"Something Anything," the blueprint for a perfect
singer/songwriter home-recorded album (decades before computers),
this charming, youthful go at hit-making will warm your
heart. A talented songwriter/ producer, with his cute puppy
dog looks combined with an obvious Luara Nyro/Carole King
obsession (later to be all over “Something Anything”),
Rundgren exudes a very unique, appealing persona.
